Roy’s new book is a mystery novel set in the 1940s, during World War II, and the plot involves Nazi spies, suspicious priests, malingering mailmen, and an entire cult of followers of the cowboy star Tom Mix. The action centers around the Ideal Cafe in Price Hill, near Prout’s Corner, and the protagonist is a mild-mannered insurance salesman who finds himself suddenly working as a private detective. The cast of characters includes many of the denizens of the Ideal Cafe, a fictionalized version of the bar that Roy’s father operated for forty years in Price Hill.
